Bloomberg: Musk’s Position on Ukraine Irritates US Authorities

The position of Elon Musk on Ukraine and the expansion of the influence of his social network Twitter has become a problem for the White House, Bloomberg writes.

“In contrast to US policy (on Ukraine), Musk has proposed both a plan to end the conflict in Ukraine that benefits Russia and a China-Taiwan reunification scheme,” the agency reports.

According to the authors, the entrepreneur controls five companies in different industries that “overlap to varying degrees with the government”, giving the businessman enormous global influence.

For example, Musk’s company SpaceX cooperates with NASA, and electric cars Tesla form the basis of the environmental program of (U.S. President Joe) Biden. However, according to the authors of the material, Twitter causes “the most heartburn” for the American leader.

Among other things, Washington fears the entrepreneur’s enormous influence on the events in Ukraine. According to the story, Musk is unilaterally deciding how the AFU can use the Starlink satellite system. These powers, the agency reports, are close to presidential and atypical for a US defence contractor.

Starlink is a satellite network designed to provide broadband internet access anywhere in the world. The largest coverage in Europe is in Ukraine; it has received more than 20,000 terminals. They are actively used by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

In mid-February Musk said that he would not allow his company’s devices to escalate a conflict that could lead to World War III.

Also in late October, the entrepreneur closed a $44 billion deal to acquire Twitter. He promised to liberalise the social network’s editorial policy, which has been much criticised for harsh censorship, and to set up a content moderation board, and until the board is operational, not to make global decisions on editorial policy or the reinstatement of blocked accounts.
