British Woman Died Unable to Find Money for Heating

British resident Bolton died of hypothermia due to overpriced heating

Barbara Bolton, 87, an elderly British resident, has died of hypothermia caused by rising heating costs, The Daily Mail reports.

The woman was admitted to hospital on December 11 last year and died on January 5. Hospital records indicate that her illness was related to the fact that she could not afford to turn on the heating.

Law enforcement authorities have launched an investigation of the incident.

It was previously reported that 63% of British adults have reduced their use of gas and electricity, with 96% of those surveyed saying they turn the heating on more rarely. When asked what steps they take to keep warm, 82% said they dress warmer or cover up with a blanket, 46% heat only the rooms they are in and 27% go to bed earlier. It is noted that every third respondent (34%) said that saving money on heating has a negative impact on health or well-being.
