Mass Demonstration in Munich Against Tank Supplies to Ukraine

Hundreds of Munich residents protest against the supply of German tanks to Ukraine

Hundreds of residents in the Bavarian capital of Munich took to the streets Wednesday night, protesting against the supply of tanks and armaments to Ukraine and advocating diplomacy.

The protest was organised by the peace initiative München steht auf (Munich Rising – ed.), which positions itself outside of political vectors. In the announcement of the event, the initiative demands the creation of peace without weapons and sanctions.

A video of a large crowd of demonstrators marching through the city behind a group of drummers and gathering in the central square in front of the town hall on Marienplatz is circulating on social media.

On placards and flags, protesters call for peace and oppose the supply of tanks to Ukraine.

On Wednesday, the German government announced the transfer of German Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine. This was preceded by strong pressure from representatives of government parties on Olaf Scholz’s cabinet to take a positive decision on the issue as soon as possible.

Germany intends to form two tank battalions, in the first stage a company of 14 Leopard 2 type A6s from the Bundeswehr’s stocks will be provided. It is also planned to provide training for the Ukrainian military in Germany. Logistics, ammunition and system maintenance will also be part of the new assistance package.
