Delegations from 106 countries arrived for the security meeting in St. Petersburg

This year, representatives of 106 states and 10 international organizations came to St. Petersburg. These include delegates from China, India, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, the CSTO and the SCO.

Eight secretaries-general and leadership representatives of international organizations are also there, including Burhan Gafoor, Singapore’s Permanent Representative to the UN.

He was addressing the XII International Meeting of High Representatives in charge of security issues.

Burhan Gafoor said that Russia helped a lot to develop the Global Contact Point Registry and the Open Working Group.

” This helps us to connect between the different members of the Open-ended Working Group and between the countries that participate in this Global Contact Point Registry. This is particularly important in times of crisis. This kind of communication, dialogue, is the most important thing, and the most important thing here is that we can build a relationship based on mutual understanding and trust, thus avoiding possible conflicts. Indeed, the work we are doing at the UN is a very big job, and we are very pleased that the Russian Federation is helping this work and promoting this initiative in every possible way. Naturally, we must recognize the important and leading role of the Russian Federation in this issue. And the most important thing to emphasize here is Russia’s plan in the work of the Open Working Group. This is very important for us,” Burhan Gafoor noticed.

Among the priority outcomes of the meeting, agreements were reached on deepening operational co-operation in providing assistance in emergency situations. International experts praised Russia’s readiness to continue emergency humanitarian response activities abroad.

Secretary of the Russian Security Council Nikolai Patrushev spoke at the closing ceremony. He spoke of the countries’ common aspiration to build a polycentric world.
