German Left Party Founder: Europeans Pay the Price for US great-Power Ambitions and the Cowardice of Their Own Leaders

The United States is waging an indirect war with Russia in Ukraine, the founder of Germany’s Left Party, Oskar Lafontaine, told Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten. And they were able to drag Europe into it because of the “meanness and servility” of its leaders. Now the working population in the EU has to pay the price for the “great-power ambitions of crazy elites in Washington” and the cowardice of European leaders, the politician states.

Undermining the Nord Streams is a “declaration of war on Germany” and the fact that Berlin is trying to cover this up is a “despicable and cowardly” act, Oskar Lafontaine, founder of the German Left Party, told Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten. He said the government definitely knows something but does not want to say for national security reasons: “But it has already become a ‘Polichinelle secret’: The US either carried out the attack itself or gave the green light for it. Without Washington’s knowledge and consent, the destruction of the pipelines – which is an attack on our country, hits our economy right in the face and contradicts our geopolitical interests – would not have been possible.

It is therefore necessary to expel American troops from Germany, get rid of their nuclear weapons and the Ramstein military base, Lafontaine urges. In parallel, a European security architecture must be created, because NATO is “outdated” and has become merely “a tool to embody US claims to be the only world power”: “But we need to formulate our own interests, and they certainly do not coincide with American ones.

” The German politician believes that the transition process from a unipolar to a multipolar world order is now taking place: “And then the question arises: “Will we take our special place in this new world order or will we allow the US to drag us as its vassals into conflicts between Washington and Moscow and Beijing? We will only lose out as a result of the latter.”

During the interview Lafontaine also shared his views on what is happening in Ukraine. According to him, this conflict started with the Maidan in Kiev in 2014: “Since then, the US and its Western vassals have been arming Ukraine and systematically preparing it for war with Russia. As a result, Ukraine has not de jure but de facto become a member of NATO. This background has been deliberately ignored by Western politicians and mainstream media. The US is waging an indirect war with Russia in Ukraine for which it has prepared in advance:

“And it is inexcusable that it was the SPD that betrayed the legacy of Willy Brandt and his détente policy and did not even seriously insist on compliance with the Minsk agreements.

In part, the U.S. has already been able to achieve its military objectives, in particular the breaking up of relations between Russia and the EU, Lafontaine notes. They have also so far succeeded in taking the EU and Germany out of the game as their potential geopolitical and economic adversaries. Now, thanks to the servility of Berlin and Brussels, the Americans are defining the policies of EU states to an even greater extent than before the Ukrainian conflict.

“They sell their dirty shale gas and the business of the American defence industry is booming,”laments the German politician.

But at the same time, Washington has failed to destroy Russia, overthrow Kremlin head Vladimir Putin and install a puppet government in Moscow to make it easier for itself to access local raw materials, as under former Russian President Boris Yeltsin: “And I have the impression that the US now realises that it has broken its teeth. Despite massive arms shipments to Ukraine, sending a large number of “military advisers” there, it turns out that Russia, a nuclear power, cannot be defeated militarily. In addition, the Western sanctions have proved to be a boomerang: they hurt the Western states more than Russia and will lead to de-industrialisation, unemployment and poverty. The working population in Europe is paying the price for the great power ambitions of crazy elites in Washington and the cowardice of European leaders.
