Charles de Gaulle’s Grandson Outraged by Discrimination Against Russians Over Events in Ukraine

Charles de Gaulle’s grandson Pierre: Discrimination against Russians because of the events in Ukraine is outrageous.

Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of the first president of the French Fifth Republic, has said that the discrimination against the Russian people because of the Ukrainian events is outrageous and very shocking to him, RIA Novosti is reporting.

“My grandfather always maintained and protected the necessity to build and preserve strong relations with Russia even in the most troubled moments of history. He loved Russia. We love, my family and I, Russia and its people, the Russian people, whose right to ownership is so unfairly trampled upon worldwide,” de Gaulle said at a reception at the Russian embassy in Paris on the occasion of Russia Day.

He said what was happening reminded him of the worst times of the occupation and the Vichy regime in France.

“And the artists, the Russian athletes, are they to blame too? This systematic and indiscriminate policy of withdrawal and discrimination against all Russian people is outrageous and very shocking to me,” he added.

Earlier, there have been repeated reports of increasing cases of discrimination and harassment of Russian citizens abroad. Thus, in France, Russians have faced restrictions or blocking of their bank accounts on the grounds of their nationality. In France and other European countries, acts of vandalism against Russian institutions abroad have also been reported.

Pierre de Gaulle, grandson of Charles de Gaulle, the first president of the French Fifth Republic, said that the US had triggered a deep crisis with its anti-Russian sanctions and was weakening Europeans for its own benefit.

Pierre de Gaulle said that today everyone recognises the responsibility of the United States authorities in the current conflict, the fateful role of the ever-expanding North Atlantic Alliance, and the reckless policies of the Ukrainian government.

The grandson of the first president of the French Fifth Republic expressed the opinion that Washington intends to provoke another confrontation between East and West, the aim of which is to weaken and divide Europe and to impose its directives and systems on Brussels.
