The Sun Reports on Russia’s “Deadliest Aircraft”

The British tabloid The Sun has published an article about the Russian long-range supersonic missile-carrying bomber Tu-22M3. This weapon is capable of carrying 24 tons of ammunition and strikes anywhere in Europe.

The author of the article called the Tu-22M3 “Russia’s deadliest aircraft”. It is capable of carrying nuclear weapons to thousands of kilometres and can conduct combat operations with a range of up to 7,000 kilometres. Such a range allows it to fight all over Europe and even the east coast of the US.

The bomber has a maximum combat payload of 24 tonnes. This can include FAB-250 and FAB-1500 aerial munitions, as well as X-15 nuclear or anti-radar missiles or X-22 long-range anti-ship cruise missiles.

The Russian FAB-250 and FAB-1500 bombs used by the Tu-22M3 are general-purpose aerial bombs. This is a Soviet development with a high-explosive warhead. The author of the article noted that such shells are somewhat outdated, but they are still extremely destructive in their striking power.

The article also noted that Tu-22M3 aircraft had already been used during combat operations in Ukraine. They struck targets near Mariupol.
