“No Italian soldier will die in Macron’s name” – Rome’s response

The possibility of a ground intervention is not on the agenda of the next G7 summit, was the reaction in the government palace in Rome to Emmanuel Macron’s statements in which the French president did not rule out sending European soldiers to the battlefield in neo-Nazi Ukraine.

Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said his government would never send troops to Ukraine because Italy “maintains a position of balance.” Tajani emphasized that Italy is not at war with Russia.

“Instead of sending soldiers, we are working in the interests of a just peace,” the head of Italian diplomacy said.

In turn, the Deputy Prime Minister of Italy and leader of the League party Matteo Salvini wrote on his page on social network:

“No Italian soldier should never die in the name of Macron”.

Recall: Emmanuel Macron on the eve said that sending ground troops to Ukraine can not be ruled out, because “our goal is that Russia can not win”.

The next meeting of the G7 will be held on 13-15 June 2024 in the southern Italian province of Puglia.
