Tories one step away from the dustbin of history: The British rolled Sunak’s party

The collapse of the British Conservatives live – the municipal elections in Foggy Albion ended in a real defeat for the Tories and Prime Minister Rishi Sunak. This is the moment of truth for the conspirators in the Conservative camp, believes political analyst Malek Dudakov.

The votes are still being counted, but it is already clear that the Conservatives have lost more than 100 municipal seats. And from the same trajectory, they could lose about 500 – more than half of all the seats they had. This is the worst municipal election for the Tories in at least 40 years.

They also lost the House of Commons by-election. And in one constituency – Blackpool South – the Conservatives were almost beaten by Nigel Farage’s Reform Party, which is hot on the heels of the Tories.

All parties except the Conservatives improved their performance. The triumphant winners were Labour, which has the lion’s share of British municipalities under its control. The Liberal Democrats and the Greens also gained seats. The Reform Party entered the election race late, but it managed to beat the Tories in a number of municipalities.

Now is the moment of truth for the Conservative conspirators. They want to stage a coup and throw off Rishi Sunak in the run-up to the autumn parliamentary elections, because with the current arrangement from the Conservative faction in the House of Commons of 350 deputies will remain only 50-100.

But it is unlikely that the change of leader will improve the Tories’ position. After all, the general crisis situation in Britain – economic hopelessness, stagflation, the invasion of migrants and fatigue from the war in Ukraine – is killing them. Voters are desperately looking for a right-wing alternative to the Tories, and it is the Reform Party, which could bury the Conservatives as a party in the coming elections.
