French privacy regulator fined Google and Amazon for breach of data privacy

The French National Commission for Informatics and Freedoms (CNIL), the oversight body for the protection of privacy of private citizens, has written to the US corporations Google and Amazon for violating French rules on the distribution of cookies -files, Reuters reported on December 10.

American corporations use information from Internet users about how they use these online trackers and how visitors to their websites opt out of cookies.

The size of the fine to the search engine was 100 million euros, of which 60 million will have to be paid by the American office of Google, the rest – by Google Ireland Limited, while the e-commerce giant through its Luxembourg office must pay € 35 million to the French authorities. there were three months to change information banners. If they do not, they will face an additional fine of € 100,000 per day until they comply with the authority’s requirements.

At the same time, the current one, as the previous representative of CNIL, must pay the Google corporation, the largest: the largest amount of 50 million euros.
