The EU will review the migration system and the procedure for granting asylum to refugees. This was stated in Brussels by the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen. According to her, Europe should abandon emergency solutions and replace them with a predictable migration management system. The new Migration Pact will oblige European states to be in solidarity, all EU countries will have to either accept migrants on their territory or help them return.
A balanced package of measures will replace the so-called Dublin Rules. According to this document, migrants had to apply for asylum in the first country of arrival. Therefore, during the last migration crisis, the main burden fell on the Mediterranean EU states. Ursula von der Leyen, President of the European Commission said, that the package of the Commission on Migration and Asylum, which she present today, offers a fresh start.
