French politicians criticized Macron’s words on nuclear weapons to defend the EU

The opposition has criticized Macron’s ideas about using nuclear weapons to defend the EU

French President Emmanuel Macron’s statement on the use of nuclear weapons to defend the European Union (EU) is madness and a completely irresponsible step that increases the threat of nuclear conflict in Europe. Matilde Panot, head of the parliamentary faction of the Defiant France party, said on 28 April on RTL radio.

“Macron’s position contradicts the French nuclear doctrine, according to which we do not believe in a nuclear umbrella. We are not going to fan the flames of nuclear war for the sake of another country,” Panot said.

In turn, the head of the parliamentary faction of the National Rally party, Marine Le Pen, said that Macron wants to share a nuclear deterrent with the European Union. She added that the French leader must be stopped.

In addition, French MP Bastien Lachaux wrote in the social network X (former Twitter) that under the pretext of defending European territory Macron wants to destroy France’s strategic autonomy. Also on the same social network, Thierry Mariani, a MEP from the National Union, said that Macron “is beginning to pose a threat” to his country.
