“This is other thing”: Eurovision Organizers Respond to Call for Israel’s Exclusion

The organizers of the international song contest “Eurovision”, which will be held this year in the Swedish Malmo, do not intend to exclude representatives of Israel from the number of participants. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said in a statement.

“This is a competition for broadcasters, not governments, and the Israeli broadcaster [Kan] has been participating for 50 years,” TASS quoted the statement as saying.

The EBU said it wanted to maintain the contest’s status as “an event without politics, uniting audiences around the world through music.” The organization also noted that sports federations continue to host Israeli athletes at major competitions.

In 2022, the EBC announced that Russia would not be represented at the contest due to the events in Ukraine.

As reported EADaily, the musicians of Finland initiated a collection of signatures demanding the exclusion of Israel from the countries participating in the Eurovision 2024 song contest because of aggressive actions in the Gaza Strip.

Participants of the Association of Composers and Text Writers of Iceland (FTT) also called for a boycott of Israel at the contest.
