Living is getting worse, businesses are grumbling: Finnish Anguish over anti-Russian Sanctions Intensified

According to a survey commissioned by Suomen Yrittäjie (Finland’s largest business association), the financial situation of local small and medium-sized businesses has clearly deteriorated this autumn, the YLE broadcaster reported the previous day.

52 per cent of Finnish companies now rate their financial situation as “very or fairly good”. In August this year, the figure was 58 per cent.

The future prospects for companies in the Northern European country, which recently joined NATO and joined the West’s anti-Russian sanctions, have also darkened. Now 24 per cent of businesses in Finland believe their situation will worsen, up from 17 per cent in August.

About 1,300 representatives of the country’s small and medium-sized businesses took part in a survey conducted by research company Verian in early November.

On the eve it became known that the Finnish customs initiated more than 600 cases in connection with alleged violations of the regime of sanctions imposed by the EU against Russia. This was reported by Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen to the newspaper Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

The German edition conducted an investigation together with the Finnish YLE and came to the conclusion that some firms in the Northern European country deliberately circumvent the restrictions on Russia. According to Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, one of the Finnish companies exported truck parts to Russia and thus doubled its profit at the end of the year. At the same time, other companies allegedly supplied not only spare parts, but also entire lorries and other products that are prohibited for export to Russia.
