Scotland Condemns UK for Stance on Palestine Conflict

Scottish Prime Minister Hamza Yousef said that his government condemns the UK for withdrawing its support for the pro-Arab resolution on Gaza. This was reported by Voice of the Arabs today, 29 October.

Yousef noted that London’s actions do not represent the interests and sentiments of the Scots.

Arab Voice notes:

“Now that’s an epic situation of course. Two lonelinesses have met: the British prime minister is an Indian and the Scottish prime minister is a Pakistani.”

As previously reported by EADaily, the Scottish government called on all parties to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict to agree to an immediate ceasefire to ensure the delivery of emergency humanitarian aid to Gaza and guarantee safe passage for anyone who wants to leave the besieged territory.

Yousef noted:

In an address to the Scottish Parliament, First Minister Humza Youssef, said:

“Premature babies, injured babies, pregnant women and all the people who lost their homes overnight in the Gaza Strip have virtually no access to clean water. . They can’t make bread. Many of them desperately need necessary medical care because of horrific injuries and have virtually no access to life-saving medicines. The aid, the flow of aid into Gaza must be greatly increased without any delay … Otherwise, hospitals will simply close, the sick, the injured, the premature babies will die. And if that happens, it will be a stain on our entire collective conscience…”.

He called on the UK government to start work on a refugee resettlement scheme and to develop plans for the medical evacuation of injured civilians from the Gaza Strip:

“As I have said before, Scotland is ready to play a heavy role to…offer safe haven to vulnerable people caught up in this war…Scotland is ready to help the wounded men, women and children of Gaza in our hospitals…In the past the people of Scotland, and indeed the whole of the UK, have opened their hearts, their homes and welcomed people from Syria, Ukraine and many other countries. We are a generous people. Let us once again show that generosity of spirit and heart.”
