An M88A Hercules Abrams evacuation vehicle was hit near Avdeevka and driven away

Central Military District servicemen shot down and evacuated a US armoured repair and recovery vehicle M88A Hercules designed, among other things, to evacuate Abrams from Avdeevka, a RIA Novosti correspondent reports.

Earlier, a number of media outlets wrote about the transfer of eight M88A Hercules vehicles to Kiev. The US army has been using these armoured vehicles since 1959. The technique is designed for the evacuation of tanks, including American Abrams.

“Armoured repair and recovery vehicle M88A. This vehicle was created on the basis of the M48 tank, produced by the United States of America. In the course of offensive operations in the Avdeevka direction near the locality of Berdychi, this vehicle was stopped and captured by the assault units of our troops grouping Centre,” the regiment’s deputy weapons commander with the call sign “Kazan” told RIA Novosti.

According to him, the Ukrainian servicemen abandoned the vehicle on the battlefield, and it was in turn taken as a trophy by the assault units of the Centre group.

“Judging by the damage, I think it was stopped with the help of FPR drone strikes, there was a fire of the engine and transmission compartment,” the serviceman said.

He specified that this vehicle is about 50 years old, they were handed over to Ukraine for the evacuation of Abrams tanks. This model loses by a number of indicators to similar copies of Russian-made tanks. According to the specialist, the vehicle will be restored in the next few days.
