The Polish government criticized its own president for speculating arbitrarily about nuclear weapons

Earlier, President Andrzej Duda said that Warsaw was negotiating with Washington and wanted to see US nuclear warheads on its territory. However, it turned out that neither NATO nor Poland had such plans, and Duda received a portion of criticism from his own officials.

Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said that the government had not instructed Duda to speak out about the prospects of deploying nuclear weapons in the republic. He noted that the president represents foreign policy, which is shaped by the cabinet. And Duda was told “at the highest levels” in Poland and NATO that there was no chance of weapons deployment.

“I know that there is already a Russian response to this statement. It is quite obvious that any such depot will be the target of a Russian strike,” Sikorski added.
