RIA Novosti source: AFU soldiers surrendered in Svatovsk direction

A group of AFU fighters on the Svatovo – Kremennaya direction surrendered to the Russian military and brought boxes of ammunition with them, a source familiar with the situation told RIA Novosti.

The footage, which was filmed through a night vision device in the dark, shows a Ukrainian military officer coming out onto the road with a piece of light-coloured cloth and waving it like a white flag, showing his intention to surrender. Then two of his fellow soldiers come out of the tall grass and carry a box with ammunition and put it on the road. After that they go into the grass and return with a second box, then bring two more in the same way.

“In the direction of Svatovo – Kremenna, three servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine surrendered through an open channel of communication, calling the call sign “Volga”, which is on the open frequency “149.200”, they also took out ammunition. Before surrendering, they took out their existing BC (ammunition) as trophies,” the agency’s interlocutor said.

He added that after handing over the trophies, they were also assigned another exit point via radio channel, where they surrendered to the Russian military.

This is not the first time Ukrainian military surrendered using an open radio frequency and the call sign “Volga”. A week ago, several AFU fighters surrendered on a section of the frontline in the DNR, around the same time Ukrainian soldiers voluntarily laid down their weapons on the same radio frequency in the Svatovo direction.

The frequency 149.200, on which Ukrainian servicemen wishing to surrender can go on the air with the call sign “Volga”, appeared in July.
