Putin in Vladivostok to Start Work at the Eastern Economic Forum

VLADIVOSTOK, 11 September. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin begins a two-day trip to Vladivostok, where he will take part in the 8th Eastern Economic Forum (EEF).

The head of state’s press secretary Dmitry Peskov said earlier that Putin’s programme will be very rich. On 11 September, the President will attend an interactive presentation of the results of the development of the Far East with video-conferencing of residents of the territories of advanced development (TOR), who are ready to launch their production facilities. As Peskov noted, “over the past year, a number of enterprises have been set up that could be opened.” On the whole, the TORs continue to work on attracting investment, and new lines of facilities are being launched in various areas.

Development of cities and support for culture

Putin’s programme for 11 September includes a meeting on the development of Far Eastern cities – Birobidzhan, Blagoveshchensk, Vladivostok and Khabarovsk. On 5 September, the President held a similar meeting, then the situation in Anadyr, Magadan and Yakutsk was discussed. Another meeting on this topic was held in March, where master plans for the development of Chita, Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, Ulan-Ude agglomeration, Tynda and Severobaikalsk were considered.

On Putin’s instructions, a project to renovate the cities of the Far East is being implemented, and the regions are developing master plans. Additional funding limits will be allocated for their implementation on the instructions of the head of state: 5 billion rubles per year for the improvement of cities and 100 billion rubles – a separate Far Eastern limit in the programme of infrastructure budget loans for 2023-2024.

Putin will pay special attention to the construction of cultural and educational clusters in Russia and will hear a report by Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin on this topic. In 2019, the President instructed to create such clusters in Vladivostok, Kaliningrad, Kemerovo and Sevastopol. All of them should work by the end of this year.

The second day of the President’s work at the EEF

The main event at the forum on 12 September will be a plenary session with the participation of the head of state. Peskov explained to journalists that traditionally the discussion is expected to focus on “Far Eastern development issues”, while international issues and other topics will also be discussed.

The foreign guest of the plenary session this time will be Vice President of Laos Pany Yathothu, with whom Putin is scheduled to have a separate bilateral meeting. Another foreign guest of the EEF will be Vice Premier of the State Council of China Zhang Guoqing, with whom the Russian President is also scheduled to meet.
