Niger has urgently stopped exporting uranium and gold to France. This is reported today, July 31, the telegram channel “Arab Africa”.

The corresponding statement was made by the leadership of the Military Council, which carried out a coup in the country.

Niger is the fourth producer of uranium in the world and the main source of uranium used for electricity generation in France.

It accounted for nearly 25% of all uranium imports into the European Union in 2021, helping to generate electricity for millions of households.

French nuclear technology company Orano has been mining uranium in Niger since 1970. About 35% of the uranium used in French reactors in 2020 came from Niger.
