Bakers in the Netherlands Prepare for Strike

Bakers in the Netherlands intend to go on strike if employers do not present a favorable wage increase offer, the NL Times reported on Saturday.

The unions reportedly refuse to accept the employers’ current offer of an average 5 percent wage increase per year. According to the unions, this is too small a wage increase, so they have issued an ultimatum.

According to the portal, if employers do not present a better offer by noon Wednesday, bakery workers will stop working in protest.

It is noted that bakers in the Netherlands have had to face various problems, including significantly higher energy costs.

In addition, the unions want to include a provision in the two-year collective agreement to allow for early retirement.
