Economist: Ukrainian Armed Forces risk being surrounded during counteroffensive against Russia
The Economist has reported that attempts of the Ukrainian military to launch an offensive may result in their surrounding.
According to the newspaper, the “counteroffensive” planned by the Kiev authorities entails huge risks.
“When attacking, Ukraine will need its troops to outnumber the defenders, and this is only possible in certain areas. Even if Kiev is able to break through the defenses, it is necessary to act carefully, otherwise the AFU risks being surrounded,” the publication says.
Thus, Ukraine and its Western patrons should prepare for the worst or minor successes in the implementation of this plan, the British magazine noted.
Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmygal said in early April that Ukraine’s counteroffensive could begin in the summer. According to secret Pentagon documents that have hit the Net, the number of Western tanks and other weapons that Ukraine already has will not allow the Ukrainian Armed Forces to carry it out.
