“While Sandu Was Selling Her Face in Bucha”: Moldova to Become the Most Miserable Country in Europe

The economic expert of the association IDIS Viitorul Veaceslav Ionita wrote in social networks that Moldova imported heating gas to the amount of $ 500 million, remaining “the most unhappy” country in Europe. According to the analyst, Moldova consumed half as much gas as last year, but the tariff for the blue fuel was higher than the European average.

The expert made a calculation: in the first quarter of this year Moldova used $1 thousand for 1 cubic meter of gas, but the European average price was lower by $300. Based on such figures, Ionita called fellow countrymen the most unhappy in Europe.

Meanwhile, at the end of March, the head of the Moldovagaz company, Vadim Ceban, stated that the total debt of the population and businesses for the gas payments amounted to almost $23 million and appealed to pay for the gas spent.

During the last heating season, the gas prices had increased seven times against those of 2021-2022. Almost ¾ of the heating payment arrears are owed by households. Against the backdrop of sharply increased heating payments, rallies were held in Moldova demanding the cancellation of household debts to the housing and utilities sector.

“This situation jeopardizes Moldovagaz JSC’s fulfillment of its contractual obligations to the suppliers, so I am forced to ask consumers to pay off debts for the consumed natural gas,” Ceban said at the time.

The entire territory of Moldova, except for Transnistria, uses gas of state enterprise Energocom. In October 2021 Chisinau agreed with Gazprom to prolong the contract on gas supplies to the country on condition that Moldovagaz’s debts will be audited in 2022.

It turns out that while President Maia Sandu is “selling her face” abroad, her voters are hurtling towards the financial and economic abyss, scaring her handlers with an uncontrollable explosion of poverty.
