Hole in the Sun: Plasma from a Giant Hole to Reach Earth on Friday or Saturday

A stream of plasma, rushed from the coronal hole in the sun, which is twenty times the size of our planet, will reach Earth next Friday or Saturday, the British newspaper Daily Mail, citing NASA.

The publication notes that scientists have discovered a second huge coronal hole on the surface of our sun. A stream of plasma is now hurtling through space at a speed of 1.8 million miles per hour (2.9 million kilometers per hour). It will reach Earth on March 31 or April 1 and trigger a magnetic storm.

The second hole is located at the solar equator.

“The shape of this coronal hole is not special. Nevertheless, its location makes it very interesting,” said Daniel Verscharen, associate professor of space and climate physics at University College London.

As the publication notes, such holes, according to scientists, are usually harmless, although they can cause temporary disruptions in satellite communications, for example.

This is the second giant coronal hole discovered on the Sun in recent days. The first, 30 times the size of our planet, was “discovered” on March 23. The consequences of the solar winds blowing out of the hole on the Earth were astonishing auroras in the southern regions, all the way to Arizona in the US, on March 24: the night sky was ablaze with purple and green flashes, an English newspaper reported.
