Shark Attack in Brazil Resulted in a Girl’s Arm Amputation

A girl had her arm amputated in a shark attack at Piedade beach in the Brazilian state of Pernambuco, Latestly reports.

The attacked Kaylan Timoteo Freitas was pulled out of the water by other vacationers. The victim was shocked and bleeding. They tried to calm her down on the shore and covered her with towels until the ambulance arrived. She didn’t regain consciousness until she was in the hospital after her amputation.

“Although authorities have warned that since 2021 the beach is a no-swimming area due to frequent shark attacks, visitors often get into the water, and such incidents occur here frequently,” the publication writes.

The incident with Keylan occurred on March 6. The day before in Piedad, attacked by a marine predator 14-year-old girl – she lost her leg. Since sea predator attacks on humans have increased in recent days, the mayor’s office decided to hold a meeting to monitor shark incidents to decide whether new measures should be implemented in the area.
