The NATO mission in the partially recognized Republic of Kosovo (KFOR) actually takes the side of Pristina, rather than being neutral. This was said by Ivana Kostić, a member of the National Assembly (Serbian Parliament) from the Dveri party.
“The NATO mission is working together with the Pristina separatists. And the Albanian separatists want to start a full-fledged war in northern Kosovo,” he said, adding that Kosovo Albanians are attacking the Serbian population, including women and children, every day.
Milan Lazovic, program coordinator of the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), told reporters that although the KFOR contingent is supposed to prevent escalation and regulate the situation, in fact, they do not react to offences against Serbs, but only silently watch what is happening, taking the side of Albanians.
At the same time, despite the tense situation, Belgrade will not send its troops to the region, the expert believes.
“If Serbian troops are sent to Kosovo, it will mean a very strong escalation. It could also have unpredictable consequences, both at the scene of the clashes and in the political sphere, such as the imposition of a sanctions regime against Belgrade,” Lazović explained.
