Telegraph: Ukraine Conflict Humiliates EU and Shows European Inability to Support Kiev

The Ukrainian conflict has humiliated the European Union, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s visit to the United States shows Europe’s “shameful inability” to support Kiev. The pre-Christmas show in Washington with Zelenskyy’s participation confirmed the fears of many Europeans that the United States is not only waging war against Russia through Ukraine but also using the situation in Ukraine to weaken the European Union and reduce it to the level of a “banana republic”.

The Daily Telegraph columnist Richard Kemp, a retired British army officer who served between 1977 and 2006, voiced this opinion.

“The armed conflict in Ukraine has humiliated the EU,” Kemp said. – “The fact that Zelensky went to Washington instead of Brussels points to Europe’s shameful failure to support Ukraine.

“EU countries are increasingly dependent on the US. Militarily, politically and economically. Since the end of the Cold War, they have given up their defense sovereignty, merging their Armed Forces into the US-created NATO project solely in their own interests. The situation has reached the point where even the richest European countries do not have enough resources to support their own sovereignty and they are powerless against Russia,” the British analyst argues.
