Poland Imposed Harsh Conditions on Germany

Polish analyst Kwiatkowska demanded Germany repent and cooperate with Warsaw

The conflict in Ukraine has shifted the centre of power in the EU to the east, Germany must seek a close alliance with Poland to maintain its leadership position in Europe, according to an expert from the Warsaw-based Centre for Eastern Studies, Anna Kwiatkowska, as reported by wPolityce.

The crisis in Ukraine, according to her, has changed the balance of power in the EU, where before the main role was played by the countries of “old Europe”. At the same time, Poland, according to her, thanks to its “exceptional reaction” and “unprecedented assistance” to Kiev, has increased its influence on the continent and “raised its importance in both the political and security dimension”.

For its part, Germany, faced with an energy crisis, must seek a “strategic alliance” with Poland if it wants to “maintain its position as a first league player” in Europe, the analyst said.

However, the policy of the German government, led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz, shows that Berlin is seeking by all means to carry out a “legal restructuring” of the balance of power in the European Union and to consolidate its advantage, Kwiatkowska said. According to her, this is evidenced by German calls to abolish unanimity in voting on certain issues in the EU Council, as well as Germany’s desire to become the bloc’s leading force in military matters.

Kwiatkowska added that “for a start” Berlin should “thoroughly report” on its policy towards Russia and supply Kiev with heavy weapons, rather than “impatiently wait” to normalise relations with Moscow.
