Losses of German Energy Concern Uniper Amounted to 4.8 Billion Euros

Losses of German energy company Uniper in the first nine months of 2022 amounted to almost € 5 billion, the agency reported on Tuesday, citing a statement of the concern.

As it follows from the message, the group’s loss before interest and taxes amounted to € 4.8 billion, while, according to the annual report, last year Uniper made a profit of € 614 million.

The agency notes that because of the reduction of Russian gas supplies Uniper was forced to buy gas at higher prices, which led to an accumulation of losses.

In September the government of Germany agreed with Uniper and the Finnish energy company Fortum, which is its majority shareholder, to nationalize the German company. Under the terms of the agreement, the government will invest more than €8 billion in Uniper and acquire shares from Fortum at a price of €1.7 each.
