British Media Says Truss’s Resignation Imminent

The Independent: Britain’s parliament expects Truss’ resignation in the coming days

British Prime Minister Liz Truss will leave her post within “a few days or weeks.” This was reported by the British newspaper The Independent on October 15.

It is noted that a group of leading Tory representatives will go to Truss next week to inform her about her resignation due to the loss of support from MPs. The decision was made among the Tories after Truss’ press conference, which they called “shockingly bad.”

At the same time, Truss fired Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng on October 14. The Independent writes that she appointed Jeremy Hunt as the new minister in an attempt to calm the markets, after which she announced a corporate tax increase, which she promised to repeal. However, even that failed to help.

“Securities yields … rose sharply after the prime minister appeared before the cameras, and ended the day at even higher levels than at the opening of trading. Ministers said that further volatility next week could lead to a hasty end to Truss’ premiership, especially after the Bank of England’s emergency bond-buying program ended on Friday (Oct. 14),” the publication wrote.

It is reported that the leader of the Labor Party, Keir Starmer called for an early general election. According to him, Truss has brought the British economy to a standstill, as well as “crushed our institutions.

In addition, former finance minister Kwarteng expressed the opinion that Truss had a few weeks left as prime minister.
