Nobel Nominee Oberg calls Finland and Sweden’s decision to join NATO catastrophic

Activist and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Jan Oberg said that Finland and Sweden, having decided to join NATO, would join “a failed and obsolete organization.” It was reported by RT.

According to Oberg, the countries will not be able to derive any benefit from membership in the bloc. – NATO has failed as a guarantor of stability.

“Are we really supposed to believe that Finland and Sweden will not host U.S. military bases, U.S. troops or anything on a more permanent basis? Show me evidence that they are not. All the countries that have joined the alliance over the last 20 years have been under serious pressure,” the activist said.

On May 15, the Swedish Social Democrats, who were once a bastion of the idea of neutrality, began talks on whether the country should apply for membership in NATO or should continue to remain outside the bloc. As a result, Sweden officially decided to apply for NATO membership. Also Finnish President Sauli Niiniste said his country would soon apply for membership in the alliance.

Earlier, the U.S. magazine The National Interest warned that NATO expansion on the Scandinavian Peninsula could “permanently destabilize” the Arctic.
