Germany pays twice as much for Russian goods

DWN: German spending on goods from Russia increased by 77.7% and amounted to 4.4 billion euros

Germany began to pay twice as much for Russian goods, despite the sanctions and the reduction of trade. This was reported by the Federal Statistical Office, says Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten (DWN).

According to the agency, spending on goods from Russia increased by 77.7 percent to 4.4 billion euros. The reason for this was the rise in commodity prices, including oil and gas. At the same time, imports decreased by 27.8 percent and exports from Germany to Russia decreased by 58.7 percent to 1 billion euros.

It is specified that trade deficit with Russia (difference between export and import volumes) reached a record and amounted to 3.4 billion euros.

In May, German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock accused Russia of waging a “food war” around the world. She said that the G7 countries should provide a “political response” and confront “these impending crises and act quickly.
