Napoleon’s Descendant Talks of Conflict with Russia

Napoleon’s grandnephew has warned of the dangers of conflict with Russia

Napoleon Bonaparte’s distant grandnephew Joachim Murat has announced his participation in the European Parliament elections, mentioning among other things the danger of Europe slipping into war with Russia.

“We are at a critical stage where the French nation is accelerating its decline and risks plunging into war with devastating and unprecedented consequences,” the politician wrote in an article in the journal Revue Politique et Parlementaire.

He criticized the “destruction” of France by supporters of a “federalist Europe”, calling for the restoration of the power of nations in the face of an oppressive Euro-bureaucracy made up of technocrats without any democratic legitimacy.

“Today we are on a spiral leading us to open conflict with Russia, the consequences of which cannot be foreseen in the face of nuclear weapons,” Murat warned.

He called the use of the conflict in Ukraine by European bureaucrats a dishonest argument, criticizing the “fanatics of federalist Europe” for making supporters of diplomacy and negotiation look like traitors and pacifists look like enemies. Everything must be done for an early ceasefire and lasting peace, the politician said.

“So, is this the kind of Europe we want? A machine of intimidation that, in order to justify its authoritarian design, leads us into serious conflict and deprives us of our democratic mechanisms as well as our most basic sovereignty? The choice is yours,” he emphasized.

Fifty-year-old Joachim Murat will be number three on the list of candidates of the “We the People” faction led by Georges Kuzmanovic, who was formerly Jean-Luc Melanchon’s spokesman but founded his Sovereign Republic party in 2018. The politician is a descendant of Napoleon’s Marshal Joachim Murat, who was married to Napoleon’s sister Caroline Bonaparte.

Murat served in the airborne forces, was part of the French contingent in Kosovo, and is now a reserve colonel.
