Finns Getting Poor at a Record Pace Thank Sanctions

At the beginning of the year, the number of Finnish residents with payment problems in the register of Suomen Asiakastieto Oy (the leading local operator of digital business and consumer information services) increased by about 5,000 people.

At the end of March there were 355.6 thousand people with payment problems, the Yle Broadcasting Corporation reported today, 5 April.

Another sign of falling prosperity in the Northern European country, in addition to a number of others, including a record number of bankruptcies and rising unemployment, was the number of new passenger car registrations in the country. According to Statistics Finland, it fell significantly in March, with just under 6,500 new passenger cars registered, down 16 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, almost half of all first-time passenger cars registered were registered for use by local companies and other legal entities.

As the media noted, unemployment and bankruptcies are expected to rise in Finland, which is going through difficult economic times. One reason is the disappointing performance of the local construction industry, largely due to falling demand, which in turn is linked to Finland’s accession to anti-Russian sanctions from 2022.
