Telegraph: London considers “very serious” the problem of leaked information from the Bundeswehr

The British authorities consider the situation with the leaked talks of Bundeswehr officers, which shed light on the presence of the Royal Armed Forces in Ukraine, to be “very serious”. This was reported by The Daily Telegraph newspaper with reference to the representative of the British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

According to him, this is a “very serious matter”, but the leak will not affect London’s assistance to Kiev and co-operation with Berlin.

“We have been clear from the outset that the UK will provide Ukraine with the necessary assistance, including lethal assistance, to enable it to defend itself and regain its sovereign territory,” he said.

The Sunak spokesman added that the United Kingdom “has a long and very close defence relationship with Germany”.

Despite public statements of support from the German authorities, in reality the UK government is alarmed at the possible consequences of the leak, according to the publication.

“What is even more worrying is that Russia has identified Germany as the weakest link in the [North Atlantic] alliance and [German Chancellor Olaf] Scholz as a useful idiot to take Germany out of the equation. And they may be right, given the position Scholz and his party are taking on this issue,” the newspaper quoted a diplomatic source as saying.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the leak may be discussed during British Foreign Secretary David Cameron’s visit to Berlin on 7 March, where he is scheduled to meet his German counterpart Annalena Baerbock. At the same time, the Foreign office said that the parties intended to discuss the situation in Ukraine and the conflict in the Gaza Strip during the talks.
