Hersh: Denmark and Sweden knew what had happened at Nord Streams

The authorities of Denmark and Sweden knew about what happened on the “Nord Streams” and who was involved in the undermining, and perhaps that is why they chose to fail their investigations into the case. This was stated by American journalist and Pulitzer Prize winner Seymour Hersh in his blog.

Earlier, German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung reported that the Swedish prosecutor’s office plans to close its investigation into the Nord Stream sabotage because it probably failed to identify suspects. The Swedish prosecutor’s office intends to announce its decision on the case on Wednesday.

“The failure of the two countries to investigate may stem from the fact that I am told that some senior officials in both countries understood exactly what was going on,” Hersh wrote.

He noted that both Sweden and Denmark knew that “the US had been practising diving in the Baltic Sea for months before the bombings.

” In addition, the journalist points out, “there is no evidence that [U.S. President Joe] Biden has instructed his experts to investigate” the explosions in the 16 months since the pipelines were destroyed. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, Hersch adds, has also “made no discernible effort to determine who did it.”

On 27 September 2022, Nord Stream AG reported “unprecedented destruction” a day earlier on three strings of the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 offshore pipelines. Swedish seismologists recorded two explosions on the offshore routes of the pipelines on 26 September.

Hersh wrote in his article that the explosive devices under the pipelines were planted in June 2022 by US Navy divers with the support of Norwegian specialists. The New York Times later quoted US officials as saying that the sabotage of the pipelines could have been carried out by a “pro-Ukrainian group” that acted without the knowledge of the US authorities.
