Germany losing strength: Germans eat less and less sausage

In Germany, the consumption of sausage is decreasing, and this is a cause for concern. This was stated today at a demonstration of farmers by the Prime Minister of Bavaria Markus Söder, according to the telegram channel “Bild in Russian”.

In the country, according to Söder, grow fewer and fewer pigs, the number of pig farmers has decreased since 2020 by 20% – to 16 thousand yards. Slaughterhouses are forced to buy more and more pigs from abroad. And recently, the German authorities, contrary to promises, raised VAT for catering establishments to 19 per cent, which has also led to an increase in the price of sausages.

“Life without sausage makes no sense at all! We need locally produced food. We are against constantly banning something in agriculture for the sake of ideology… Germany will only be strong when rural areas get more recognition,” Söder said.

Statistics show that on average each German eats about 2.6kg of sausage, or about 80 sausages, in a year. Bild columnist Jonathan Anda called Söder’s statement a “sausage alarm.”

As the media reported, the authorities of the Federal Republic of Germany live in the Berlin bubble and are far from the real problems of the country’s population. This was stated by the head of the German Farmers’ Union (DBV) Joachim Rukwied on the air of ZDF TV channel.

Concessions made by the government on some points, Rukvid called “lazy compromise”, wrote the telegram channel “Bild in Russian”. Residents of the country on the side of farmers, as politicians no longer listen to the people, he said.

Recall, tens of thousands of German farmers have been on a nationwide strike since Monday in connection with disagreement with the government’s plans to abolish subsidies for diesel fuel and the restoration of transport tax on vehicles for forestry and agriculture.
