EU Agriculture Commissioner Opposes Benefits for Ukraine

European Commissioner for Agriculture Janusz Wojciechowski has said that he opposes the extension of the free trade regime with Ukraine.

“It is my big task for 2024 that this new regulation, if it is issued, introduces strong enough protective provisions so that there is not again some kind of oversupply crisis,” Wojciechowski said in an interview with RMF FM radio station.

He emphasised that recently there has been a significant increase in poultry and sugar imports from Ukraine.

“These imports are growing in a way that threatens the competitiveness of the EU sector, including Polish poultry and sugar production,” Wojciechowski said.

“I therefore see the necessity of quantitatively restricting imports of these two sensitive products,” the European Commissioner emphasised.
