No limits to German generosity: Germany Proposes to Raise Income Tax for Kiev’s Sake

In order to continue military aid to Ukraine, it would be possible to raise income tax in Germany. This was stated in an interview with Rheinische Post by the Chairman of the Economic Council of the German Cabinet Monika Schnitzer.

“Special events call for special measures. Solidarity with Ukraine as the introduction of an income tax surcharge for military aid would be a possible answer to this challenge,” Schnitzer said.

As EADaily reported, Germany will allocate 11.5 million euros to the NATO-Ukraine Council fund, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said at the end of November.

“Germany is additionally allocating 11.5 million euros to the NATO-Ukraine Council trust fund,” Berbock said on the margins of the organisation’s first meeting.

According to the German minister, the NATO-Ukraine Council will become a “working engine” that will bring Kiev closer to the North Atlantic Alliance. The central topics on this path are NATO standards, army reform and capability planning, she added.
