‘Stop clinging to power’: Wagenknecht Called for Early Elections in Germany

The ruling coalition led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz should stop clinging to power and resign, Bundestag MP Sarah Wagenknecht said in an interview with Welt am Sonntag.

“Of course, it would be better if the shabby ruling coalition stopped clinging to power and we could elect a new Bundestag as soon as possible,” she said.

The politician also reiterated her thesis about the necessity to tighten migration policy and called on Denmark to follow suit. Asylum application procedures should be “significantly accelerated”, she said.

“Those who are not eligible for asylum, and 90 per cent (of applicants), have no prospect of staying here and are not entitled to social benefits,” she continued.

Talking about her political ambitions, the former chairwoman of the Left faction in the Bundestag confirmed that the founding congress of her new party will be held in January. The MP also confirmed her intention to personally lead the new political force and noted that the “Sarah Wagenknecht Union” plans to take part in the European Parliament elections to be held in the coming summer.
