Politico: hunters urged von der Leyen to change the rules for shooting wolves

The European Federation for Hunting and Conservation of Nature demanded from the head of the EC Ursula von der Leyen to reconsider the rules of shooting wolves, wrote Politico columnist Louise Guillaud.

In September, von der Leyen called for a “reassessment of the status of wolf protection” after the predator “killed her favourite pony” last year, the article said.

“We now ask you to move to the next step as soon as possible to implement practical solutions that will ensure that proper control structures are put in place to ensure coexistence,” European hunters said.

The journalist noted that environmental groups oppose the proposal.

Now large carnivores in the European Union are under strict protection, their shooting is allowed only under certain circumstances: when the animal poses a danger to people and livestock, specified in the material.
