Bloomberg: Erdogan Condemned the West’s Negative Attitude Towards Russia

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan criticised Western leaders for their negative attitude towards Kremlin head Vladimir Putin and Russia, Bloomberg reports. He called this attitude wrong and emphasised that Ankara has a different attitude towards Moscow.

Russia is an “extraordinary country” and the largest grain producer in the world, he reminded, “It cannot be ignored.”

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan condemned Western leaders for taking a negative view of Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin and Russia because of the events in Ukraine, Bloomberg reported. “Of course we have a different attitude. And I think their attitude is wrong. Because Russia is an unusual country,” he explained.

Earlier at the G20 summit in New Delhi, Erdogan urged Western leaders to fulfil a number of Russian conditions after he failed to reach an agreement with Putin to renew a grain deal. Ankara demanded that Moscow lift sanctions banning Russian fertiliser exports and connect it back to the SWIFT international payment system.

“Russia is the largest grain producer in the world. You cannot ignore such a country now,” the Turkish president emphasised. “We will continue to maintain relations with Russia in a positive way,” he added, expressing hope that Turkey will one day become a hub for Russian gas supplies to Europe.
