Activists Plan to “paralyze” all of Berlin for a fortnight, media report

Welt am Sonntag: Climate activists plan to “paralyze” the city of Berlin from April 19th

Climate activists from the “Last Generation” (German: Letzte Generation) are planning their biggest action yet in April and intend to blockade the German capital for a fortnight, the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag reported.

“The activists plan, among other things, to ‘paralyze’ Berlin with numerous blockade actions starting from April 19, the attack on the capital will last for a total of two weeks,” the newspaper reported citing information from internal chats of the eco-activists.

The newspaper learned that the Last Generation needs 160 people a day to blockade Berlin.

According to the information published on the website of the eco-activist movement, so far more than 650 supporters of the “Last Generation” have declared their intention to participate in the civil resistance in Berlin since mid-April. In addition to blocking roads in the city by sticking themselves to it, supporters of the movement are also planning protest marches. According to the newspaper, the actions are expected to be unannounced and will obstruct the traffic.

According to the newspaper, the visiting activists who will take part in the rallies in Berlin are also planning to be provided with accommodation – dozens of flats have been rented for the duration of the protest.
