Polish Deputy Foreign Minister: Russia’s Isolation Mechanism Fails, Russia Still Has a Strong Voice

Poland stands for depriving Russia of the opportunity to influence, including other states, by the most complete isolation, said Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski. At the same time, he admitted that the mechanism of isolating Moscow in international organizations is failing, because instead of suspending Russia’s membership in the UN Security Council, it will chair it, reports Nasz Dziennik.

“This is not funny at all, because it unfortunately serves as proof that this mechanism of isolating Russia in international organizations does not work properly,” Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Pawel Jablonski commented today on Russia’s presidency of the UN Security Council from April 1. “We are in favor of depriving Russia of the opportunity to influence, including other states, by the greatest and most far-reaching isolation,” the deputy minister emphasized.

Jablonski drew attention to the fact that although Poland is no longer a member of the UN Security Council, it will negotiate with its allies who will sit on it. He urged to realize that if the key position in the UN is taken by “an aggressor country that violates international law,” the actions of the UN and the Security Council will be completely ineffective.

“Actually, it should be so that Russia was excluded or suspended its membership in these organizations,” he stressed.

At the same time, Poland’s deputy foreign minister acknowledged that Russia has many allies in other countries, especially in former colonies that are negatively disposed towards the West. “Russia has a network of connections there, including personal connections. Many people from Africa and the Middle East, for example, have such relations,” Jablonski noted. He also stressed that Poland will try to contribute to the restoration of relations between Europe and Africa, but on a partnership basis.
