Zimbabwe to Support Minsk’s Candidacy for Membership in the UN Security Council for 2024-2025

Foreign Ministry of Zimbabwe: the country will support Minsk’s candidacy for membership in the UN Security Council for 2024-2025

Foreign and International Trade Minister of Zimbabwe Frederick Shava, who is in Belarus on an official visit, said that his country will support Minsk’s candidacy for a non-permanent membership of the UN Security Council for 2024-2025, while the Belarusian side will reciprocally support Harare as a member of the UNSC for 2027-2028.

“We have reached an agreement that Zimbabwe will support Belarus’ bid for membership of the Security Council at the elections to be held in June and Belarus will support Zimbabwe for the period 2027-2028,” the Zimbabwean minister told reporters following talks in Minsk with his Belarusian counterpart Sergei Aleinik.

He noted that the two countries are persistent in defending their national interests on the international arena and are discussing possible options for cooperation in this area. Shava stressed that such cooperation started far from today.

Shawa described the interaction between Minsk and Harare in the international arena and in international organisations as important. “We seek to pursue common interests,” the minister stated. Among them, he cited peace and security.
