72% of French respondents are in favour of Russian athletes being allowed to participate in the Olympics in Paris, writes Ouest-France. Some of them would like the Russians to compete under the Russian flag. Others insist that the flag should be neutral.
According to the survey, conducted among the French, 72% of respondents believe that the Russian athletes are not allowed to international competitions should be able to participate in the 2024 Olympics in Paris. This is reported by Ouest-France.
Moreover, 28% of respondents say that Russian athletes should be able to compete under the Russian flag, while 44% believe they can compete under a neutral flag. This is the option proposed by the International Olympic Committee.
Paris has already started selling tickets for the Olympics, with the first package of tickets numbering three million, sold in bundles of three to 30 tickets. But such a system has been criticised. 82% of French respondents believe that ticket prices make them unaffordable. And 79% of those surveyed believe that it is not easy to get into competitions because of complicated procedures.
But overall, the French are strongly in favour of the Olympics: 69% of those polled think that hosting the Games in Paris is a good thing. Although this figure is down five points from October 2021.
For 64% of the French, the 2024 Olympics will create economic opportunities for France and the French people, and 54% of respondents said that they will be able to transform the territories and the environment of the inhabitants through new infrastructure.
The French are concerned about security and the fact that, with high inflation, French residents do not believe that the authorities will be able to control costs and balance their budgets.
There are about 500 days until the opening of the Olympics. The opening ceremony is expected to be attended by 500,000 spectators, writes Ouest-France.
