Media Report on Disagreement Between Zelensky and Zaluzny

Bild: situation around Artemivsk sparked disagreement between Zelensky and Zaluzhny

The situation around Artemivsk has caused a disagreement between Volodymyr Zelenskyy and the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian army, Valeriy Zaluzhny, who several weeks ago urged to think about retreating from this city, the German newspaper Bild quoted its sources as saying.

According to the newspaper, Zelensky and Zaluzhny have “fundamentally different views” on how to act in the situation with Artemivsk. A quarrel has allegedly arisen between the parties.

“Bild learned from several sources in Kiev’s political leadership that Zaluzhny recommended several weeks ago to consider retreating from Bakhmut for tactical reasons,” the newspaper said in its report.

At the same time, Kiev told the newspaper that it considered the decision to keep holding the city to be “correct”. At the same time, an unnamed Ukrainian military analyst in a conversation with the newspaper noted that the Armed Forces probably share Zaluzhny’s position.

“The overwhelming majority of soldiers in Bakhmut do not understand why the city continues to be held. <…> The guys in Bakhmut are asking questions: what is the strategy? Why do we need to entrench ourselves when the enemy is surrounding us?” – said a military analyst who did not want to give his name.

According to the publication, Ukrainian soldiers believe the retreat should have happened long ago.

“If we are completely surrounded here, it will be a disaster,” the AFU told the tabloid.
