Serbian PM Calls Berbock’s Words on Kosovo “a Staggering Level of Absurdity”

Serbian Prime Minister Brnabić responded to Serbian criticism of Berbock by declaring a “staggering level of absurdity”

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić has responded to criticism of Belgrade by German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock by declaring a “staggering level of absurdity”.

Berbock on Sunday condemned Belgrade’s “recent rhetoric”, calling the proposal to send Serbian forces to Kosovo “totally unacceptable”.

Brnabic reminded on Twitter that the foreign ministers of the G7 countries in the May communiqué called for compliance with UN Security Council resolutions in dealing with “any problem or crisis in the world (Libya, Syria, Yemen, Somalia and so on)”.

“Now, surprisingly, the German Foreign Ministry explicitly states that UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which stipulates that Serbia has the right to request the return of a certain number of its security forces to Kosovo, should be ignored because it is ‘unacceptable’,” Brnabic wrote.

She wondered “on the basis of what criteria” it is decided which UNSC resolution should be respected and which should be ignored. “A staggering level of absurdity,” the Serbian prime minister added.

On Sunday, fighters from the Interior Ministry’s special unit of the self-proclaimed republic of Kosovo invaded and occupied a facility at the Gazivode dam, where they removed Serbian flags and kicked out a Serbian security guard. It is the main source of water and storage for the hydroelectric power plant there. Most of the lake is in the municipality of Zubin Potok, inhabited mostly by Serbs, as are three other districts in the north of the province.
