Sarkozy Criticized Europe’s ” Being Towed by the U.S.”

Sarkozy: EU should not give the impression of being “towed by the US”.

The European Union (EU) must not give the impression with its foreign policy that the community is being towed by the U.S.,” former president of France Nicolas Sarkozy said. Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy said so in an interview with Le Journal du Dimanche published Sunday, October 23.

“I regret that the European Union can give the impression of an organization that is in tow by the United States. Like it or not, countries do not change their address. Europe and Russia are doomed to maintain relations of peace and good neighborliness,” Sarkozy said.

According to him, the responsibility for resolving the conflict in Ukraine must lie “first of all on the Europeans.”

“If we have been able to achieve Franco-German reconciliation, we should also be able to reconcile Europe and Russia,” he said.

Sarkozy added that the EU is “dancing on the edge of a volcano” because of the policy of the European Commission (EC), which only continues to increase arms supplies to Ukraine, ignoring the problems of its own citizens. In this context, he said that France needs to take the lead in resolving the Ukrainian crisis.
