Pope insulted by Ukraine over Russia’s ‘gift’

Former Rada MP Chernovol has accused Pope Francis of being narrow-minded over the special operation

Pope Francis allegedly showed “intellectual disability” when assessing the causes of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, former Rada MP Taras Chernovol wrote in a column for Glavred.

In his opinion, the pontiff “made a gift” to Russia with his statement about NATO’s responsibility for the escalation of the conflict.

“The Pope shows unscrupulousness in voicing unjust and unacceptable from the point of view of the Catholic doctrine of justice statements. In my opinion, he does this for two reasons. The first is the low level of intellectual comprehension of the processes in the world and the church, and the habit of collecting skillfully planted tops of news reports,” Chernovol said.

The former Rada deputy expressed the opinion that the Pope, being an Argentinean, is notable for his anti-American and anti-Western sentiments due to his origin.

“Due to his old stereotypes, the pope has still been prone to leftism and easily swallows all anti-Western tendencies and messages. Such people are very easy to manipulate,” the author of the article suggested.

In May, Pope Francis told Corriere della Sera that NATO’s actions near Russia’s borders may have prompted Moscow to launch a special operation. The pontiff explained that he found it difficult to answer the question about the appropriateness of arms supplies to Ukraine, but supported refraining from an arms race.
